One late evening, Bart is staring out the window, and witnesses aliens landing. They are attempting to take control of the world, starting with Springfield, and Bart is the only one who can stop them.

The game is divided into multiple levels, the first one of which is Springfield, followed by the Springfield Mall, Krustyland, the museum of natural history, and finally the nuclear plant. In each level, Bart will have to either destroy or collect specific items. In the first level, you need to get rid of pink/purple objects. This can be achieved by spraying them with a different color paint, using the environment to hide or recolor them, or by destroying them with items.

In the second level, you need to knock hats off of people. Balloons are to be destroyed while you're in the amusement park. In the museum, exit signs are the target, and finally, you collect nuclear rods in the power plant.

Once Bart collected or destroyed the required amount of items, he will have to face the boss of the level. If he managed to uncover a sufficient number of Aliens (he can use his special X-ray glasses to identify them) by hopping on their heads and then collecting the tokens they drop. Each token will add the letter of a family member to their name, and if Bart manages to collect enough tokens to spell their name, they will come to his aid in the boss battle, which helps significantly.
