Tunneler is a (local) 2-player game. Both players have a home-base, control a tank, and have the goal to kill the other player. Players start on a random section of the map, and are separated by dirt and impenetrable rocks. You can travel through the dirt at normal speed, or quickly (by shooting it, but that depletes your energy faster).

Each tank has a limited amount of energy, but tanks can recharge at either base. Either tank will initially have a shield, which can be broken by being hit. Shields can only be recharged at your own base.If a player doesn't make it to a base in order to recharge in time, that player dies, so be sure to return to your base while you attempt to scout where the enemy is (if you're lucky, you can spot the enemy or one of their tunnels on their side of the screen before they notice you).

When one player kills the other player, or a player runs out of energy, the game ends, and a new round will start.
The first player to win 3 games, wins, after which a map of the playing field (including he tunnels) will be shown.
